IPTV and VoD (Video on Demand) DCRUM could cover it with Universal Decode? What happened with Service Check? We can use it yet ?

Hi David,

I'm assuming that the protocol used for IPTV and VoD is UDP. If so you can use the UDP decode to monitor the UDP streams. This will provide bandwidth usage and which users are accessing the UDP streams.

The Universal Decode is primarily intended for transactional data. IPTV and VoD are both streaming protocols and as Cosmin points to, can be covered by the ordinary UDP feature.

Hi Ulf,

I would like to know about module SI (Subscriber Intelligence) that there was with old Vantage Service Check, and reports about Video and Audio quality by channels by subscriber on IPTV will could we make the same thing today only monitoring UDP traffic and DMI Reports?

Thanks for your help.

HI David,

The SI module that was part of Service Check actually carried out some quality of experience decode so was more detailed and complicated than the existing UDP decode, so we're unable to be able to reproduce this report in CAS today. In addition since that time the codesc being used for video transmissions (both conference and streaming) , and at this stage we do not have an analysis module that would be able to address these. we are researching possibilities in regard to to a qulaty of experience approach but nothing definite has been planned at thsi satge. As Cosim points out the optoins are around using UDP to provide yuo simple usage type reports, or if avaible yuo could consider using NetFlow in combination with NBAR to provde more granualr breakdown, again at this stage it would be usage centric report.
