Special instructions for upgrading AMD from Redhat 6.8 to 7.4

My Linux support team will be upgrading my AMD from Redhat 6.8 to 7.4 so I can upgrade to v2017. I understand this will be clean install of the OS so I will need to install 2017 clean. I have been told they will use Kickstart unless the OS version is not setup
then they will be ISO image. I have the read the "Installing Linux with kickstart" in the documentation but I'm not 100% clean if I need to give them any special instructions when they do the OS install. I seem to remember when they upgraded my AMD from 5.x to 6.x they missed some libraries. Any advice on what special direction I should give the Linus team?

Here are my installation steps:

  • Install the OS with Kickstart file per
    • I like to take the kickstart file and make it into its own
ISO image. Use the remote management (iDrac, iLo, CIMC) to remote mount the
RHEL CD. Follow the instructions on the page and use the command “linux
ks=cdrom:/amdrhel7.cfg” to initiate the installation. When prompted for the
kickstart file, dismount the RHEL ISO and mount the kickstart ISO. Once it is
read remount the RHEL ISO. Reboot at the end of the OS installation.
  • Set the date/time/timezone and set the hardware clock “hwclock
    --systohc –utc”
  • Configure the network (nmtui),
  • Set the hostname “hostnamectl set-hostname hostname”
  • Register the OS with RHEL and configure the repositories
    • Register a system: "subscription-manager register"
      • Enter
the username and password to register the system.
    • Config Repos: "subscription-manager attach --auto"
  • Set RHEL version for max update: “subscription-manager
    release --set=7.4”
  • Update RHEL: "yum update --exclude=kernel*"

When the AMD installation is run with the --automatic
option, any missing dependencies will be installed.

I hope this helps
