URL Monitoring - Ordering Definitions

Dynatrace Pro
Dynatrace Pro

Does the URL definition type (static URL, regular expression, regular expression for auto learning) play any importance in the ordering of monitored URLs (most specific rule first, exclusions first).

Customer has a pair of rules they want to work.

1. a Regex for Auto Learning rule to capture a broad part of a web site.

2. a Regex (with exclude set), to exclude a image cache folder (lots of unique URLs not wanted).

RUM Console won't allow you to order those two different type rules, how does the AMD apply those rules, is the order in RUMC important here? is say a RegEx for Auto Learning always a low priority rule?

AMD apply Regex rules in the order of appearance in the configuration. Unfortunately looks like there is a defect in the Console. It should allow to change the order. As a workaround you can try creating those URL rules in the certain order. If you create the exclude rule first and the include rule second, Console should save the rules in such order.

Thanks Tomasz, version in use is 12.4.10.

Not so sure this is a bug - it is however unwanted behaviour.

Rules of type "RegEx for Auto Learning" and type "RegEx" are treated as different lists in RUMC.

May I suggest, RUMC includes in the table of rules, a priority number - it'll help users organise the list espeically if there's differing rule types in use.

One more note, instead of recreating URLs in proper order you can use HTTP Wizard to change the order of URLs. Just edit Software Service rule in HTTP Wizard and navigate to 3rd step (URLs and parameters groups). URL order can be changed there using drag and drop.
