Dynatrace Managed Migration from Datacenter

Hi,

we have a Customer who has a Managed Dynatrace Installation and they have to move their On-Premise machine (dynatrace included) to Datacenter (another country), of course other IP's, etc.

The question is. What relevant aspect must we handle about Dynatrace Migration. They are thinking about moving Filesystems (/opt/dynatrace, /var/dynatrace, Elastic, Cassandra and transactions). The thing is that we are not familiar with configuration changes requiered.

Is there any procedure for this kind of migrations?

Thanks in advance.

Alberto.

Is it possible to install new cluster in different DataCenter with communication between them? In such case new cluster will replicate data from the old one. You only will need to install new cluster as extra node of the old one. Then old can be disabled and closed.

Hi Sebastian, it would be great but we are not sure yet about its visibility. If there are no communications... is there a Plan B for replication?

Thanks.

A.

There is not, I don't think that copy of files will work. Migrating whole cluster will be issue as well because of fixing configuration (ip for example). It is possible to overwerite those configurations but it's not supported and will be doing for own risk.

Copying just the data will definitely not work. The best option is to create another cluster node (not the whole cluster) and get the data synchronized. This can be done without losing any data (no downtime).
Another option is to restore data on the other side from backup. However, depending on your network and deployment architecture you might need to reconfigure the agents so they will be able to connect.

I don't think any other method is supported.

What about backup and restore? Can a backup be restored to a different cluster? Will configuration details be copied? (I suspect not).

Yes. That will work and configuration will be persisted.

But transaction storage and lowest resolution metrics will be lost.

We have published a "Cluster migration" topic in our help docs. Hope it helps.

Hello Radoslaw,

Query, is it possible to migrate all the configurations from a Dynatrace Managed environment to a SaaS environment?
Would you advise me to take all the Manged environment to Saas.

Thanks a lot.

Replied in your separate thread.

Hi Consultor,

a few weeks ago we've published our tool Composer on the Dynatrace Hub to support such migration scenarios. Composer handles your Dynatrace configuration.

Please check it out or contact me if you have questions.
