Release Monitoring env-vars on IIS

Does anyone know a good way to this for App Pools on IIS? I am not the expert but find it difficult to find info on how to set process specific environment variable in IIS.
Or are there alternatives to get this metadata streamed in?

We will also use the API to send deployment events but it's good to have the real status as well.

No, we did not go further with this approach. Only sending events via the release pipeline to Dynatrace.
