Forum tip: How to make sure that your post is safe to publish?

Hello Dynatrace Community,

Here is another quick tip on how to make your forum experience not only better, but what is probably even more important – safer!

We, as a moderation team, go through each new post every day to make sure that no sensitive data is in the users' post – such as your or your client environment ID, tokens etc. But even then, some information can get through the cracks. That is why it is so important for users to be sure that what they are trying to post in the forum doesn’t have any restricted information. Here are some quick tips on how to make sure that your post is safe to publish:

  • Reread it once again after writing to check if there is something that maybe you don’t want to share. From the moderation team experience, we advise to focus on links and URLs that may contain sensitive information.
  • Be especially careful if you want to share some code or an API call. Remember to put “XXXX” in every place where there would be some sensitive data normally.
  • Take a good look at pictures in your post, especially if they are screenshots from your Dynatrace environment. Erasing some of the elements in the image can save you some headaches later!
  • Check out file names of your images – they can also include information that can be sensitive, that should not be visible in the open forum.
  • The same goes for the names of the attachments. People that want to download them will see the full file name. Just take a second look to make sure that there isn’t something there that isn’t safe to share.
