Turn off collection of Azure metrics without having to go to a custom extension

The current MS SQL extension continually queries for Azure based metrics where the instance is not Azure hosted.  It would be great if there was a simple way to turn on / off the collection of these Azure metrics without having to go to a custom extension?

That's a planned improvement. I can't give you an ETA, unfortunately. There are many tiny things like this one. which all need to be improved.
