In the new host overview page, I'm not able to download the /var/log/messages file.
We do not monitor our log files, but in the 'old' overview page, I was able to just download the file itself.
When I try this in the new overview page, the file is empty..., and I'm not able to select that file.

I'm afraid that in new log v2 monitoring you have to manually configure that log as source in settings/log monitoring either per specific host/Linux OS (host perspective) or on all hosts via pg/Linux OS (pg perspective). Only then you can browse log content. Old host page doesn't allow you to browse that log either (it just warns that log is not selected for monitoring).
Log v1 is still there, but new host page probably does not support it as it will fade out in near future.
