Restart of OneAgent post JVM/Process recycle?

AK

Hello Folks,

I have one basic question on processes/JVM in Dynatrace.

If JVM/Process gets recycled, do we also need to restart OneAgent?

Some of our process stopped reporting (showing Shutdown) to dynatrace post recycle. We observed one small change in command line argument for the concerned process.

Is the restart of OA really needed? why OA didn't picked the up process automatically?

Regards,

AK

Hi @AK

  • The restart of OA is executed automatically in case of OA version upgrade, but the required action would be restarting the monitored services and processes to get the full visibility.
  • Meanwhile, if you have applied changes on the monitored processes, the required action is to stop OA Service and Start it again ("Restart").
  • The main reason behind that is ensuring the OA auto injection is working properly and the monitoring signals are delivered to Dynatrace.

Peter.

Most likely the command line change resulted in new process group being created. You must be able to see the java processes , unless permissions for your account is limited and your roles prevent you from accessing the process. Examine it at the host level in Dynatrace and check if there are another processes.

Fyi - OA does not need to be restarted.
