Understanding W3C Trace Context tracing standard in the purepath

Hi there. I've a question about the W3C Trace Context. I've deployed the Dynatrace EasyTrade example. I can observe that the parentSpan of a child span does not match with the span of its parent. Why is happening this? I share some screenshots to illustrate the case:

1. The entire spans tree:

2. For instance, this spanId is 6d108...2cda

3. The parentSpanId of its childspan is the following: faaf...589c

4. The parentSpandId of this span is different to the previous spanId of the parent: f99c...f845

It looks like an intermediate span weren't shown. I don't know if the Purepath omits spans that can be generated during the communication between the different services, or what is happening. Can you help me?

Thanks a lot!

What Cluster Version are you currently on?

Hi @ChadTurner !

I was using the last cluster version, I don't remember which. But I was using a free trial tenant, so I suppose that the latest version at that moment.

Have a nice day!
