Oau, you really turned me back in time! ![]()
I actually remember two childhood favorites, both full of funny stories:
Max and Moritz – there was even a movie about them. I was around 5–6 years old, often staying at my grandparents’ house with my cousin (who was three years older). We decided to act like Max and Moritz… Years later, my mom told me that when she saw the movie, she thought: “Some children will probably try to imitate them — but which parents will be the unlucky ones?” Well, the answer turned out to be her and my aunt. ![]()
The second book I can’t recall the title of, only the story. It was about a child who was tired of always having to say polite words like “Please! Thank you! Sorry!” “на всяка крачка” (in Bulgarian this literally means “on every step”, but really it means “all the time, to everyone you meet”). The child ran away from home, but after some adventures came back and realized that being polite is actually wonderful. As a little kid, I misunderstood it completely — I thought that to be a good girl I had to say all three words — “Please, Thank you, Sorry” — every single time my foot touched the ground while walking! I tried it so seriously, but it was exhausting. Later, when I finally understood what the book really meant, it became one of my funniest childhood memories.
Two books came my mind.
First is a book for kids who start the elementary school. We were very poor this was my only one Christmas gift. I have never forget it.
The second book is the one I couldn’t put down until I finished it. It is about the Battle of Midway from the II. World War which was a great victory of U.S. Navy forces.
Ah, those good old times.
I used to read a lot, and I miss it dearly. Books, poems, comics - I devoured them all.
I think of Astrid Lindgren and her incredible ability to sweep the reader away into a world of adventure, wild nature, and rebellious children — like The Six Bullerby Children, or my beloved Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter.
I also used to sneak books from my teenage older sister… and that’s how I discovered the Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher saga and Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. I devoured those too, even if, back then, I couldn’t catch all the jokes and nuances.
As a child, I read a lot, especially comic books! The first one I read was Lucky Luke, the lonesome cowboy.
and my first favourite book was Tom Sawyer, which I won in a chess tournament when I was six. I read that one over and over again.
And like @Michal_Gebacki , I was also a fan of the adventures of “Le petit Nicolas”.
Two books from my childhood that I remember and that made some sort of impact on me are:
- “The Children of Noisy Village” (Polish: Dzieci z Bullerbyn)
- “The Paul Street Boys” (Polish: Chłopcy z Placu Broni)
Great! The books I was used to are:
- Journey to the Center of the Earth (French: Voyage au centre de la Terre) by Jules Verne;
- The Little Prince (French: Le Petit Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry;
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K Rowling.
Hello everyone.
The moments I remember most when I was younger were the Monica’s Gang comics. I don’t have a book I remember the name of, only the children’s Bible. But what I remember most is still Monica’s Gang. :joy:![]()
Redwall Series (Brian Jaques)
Swallows and Amazons Series (Arthur Ransome)
Calvin and Hobbes (Bill Waterson)
Tintin (series)
Asterix (series)
Hornblower (C.S. Forester)
Ramage (Dudley Pope)
I have a few,
- The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (the hype, every time they get in trouble) by Mark Twain
- Harry Potter Series (Used to be obsessed) by J. K. Rowling
I Just finished reading the first series of “Warrior cats” and now I’ve started the second series, “The New Prophecy”, beginning with the book “Midnight”.
My favorite childhood book is Nobody’s Boy (Sans famille) by Hector Malot. I still remember how immersive the story was. Loved it!
