Avaya Servers & Application Monitoring

Hi All,

Have anyone monitored Avaya Servers/Applications before on Managed Dynatrace?

They are not allowing to install OneAgent on their servers and they are monitored on Riverbed but they are looking to have extra monitoring features not only CPU, Memory or Disk consumption.

They are looking to monitor their applications installed on their Linux servers, so if any one has done this before, please share what are the pre-requisites and the process to be done in order to monitor them on Managed Dynatrace

I've been in a similar situation where the vendor didn't allow OneAgent installation on the target servers.

In that case, I'd look at the Remote Unix Monitoring 2.0 Extension, which allows Linux hosts to be monitored remotely.

If you're also looking for application-level visibility, the next step depends on what Avaya exposes. If Avaya expose metrics via JMX or SNMP, you can push those into Dynatrace using the Metrics API or build an SNMP extension via Extension Framework.

One thing to keep in mind is that without OneAgent you won't get capabilities such as automatic service discovery, PurePath tracing, code-level visibility, or dependency mapping. 

Do you know which Avaya product is being used and whether SNMP, JMX, or API access is available? That would help determine the most suitable monitoring approach.

For Avaya Servers I will be asking for the details, but my concern if Dynatrace will not give additional value over Riverbed then there is no point to do the monitoring as they are already monitoring in Riverbed.

Kindly advise if we can have additional value over Riverbed.

I think the value depends on what telemetry Avaya can expose.

If Dynatrace can only collect the same infrastructure metrics that Riverbed already provides, the additional value may be limited. However, if Avaya exposes application-specific metrics, logs, SNMP data, or APIs, Dynatrace can bring those into a single observability platform alongside the rest of your environment for alerting, correlation, and analytics.

I'd first identify what data Avaya can expose and compare that with what Riverbed is already collecting. That should quickly highlight whether there's an observability gap that Dynatrace can fill.
