Which Dynatrace EF1 extensions are not going to be migrated to EF2?

Last November, we were told that Dynatrace was "working on migrating the Extensions 1.0 that were provided to you out-of-the-box or were published by Dynatrace on the Hub." (in https://www.dynatrace.com/news/blog/unmatched-scalability-and-security-of-dynatrace-extensions-now-a...)

Now, we know that this is not true for at least the "Generic DB Query" plugin: https://community.dynatrace.com/t5/Extensions/Generic-DB-Query-in-EF2-when/td-p/246987

So, which other plugins/EF1 extensions is Dynatrace not going to migrate?

Hi,

All EF1 extensions which were scheduled for migration were migrated and added to the hub by April.

Approximately 20 extensions were not migrated. This is the list, I am not sure why custom DB Query is not on that list, I will ask the PM: https://docs.dynatrace.com/docs/whats-new/technology/end-of-support-news#id-2024-10-31-end-of-suppor...

Thanks Mike. Any comments on the reasons behind dropping the various synthetic extensions like LDAP and port ping? I found those quite useful.

Port, ping and DNS are about to be replaced by a new synthetic offering in the next couple of months. Keep your eye on the blog posts.

The others were barely used.

So the list is:

@Mike_L, Will the port & ping new offering maintain data continuity?

Antonio Sousa

I don’t expect that, but I forwarded this to the PM who can confirm.

Mike

Hi @AntonioSousa
As Mike mentioned, ping, port (and DNS) will be replaced by completely new approach, synthetic network monitors, with significantly enhanced functionality, for example single monitor handling list of selected hosts/devices (IP addresses/ports) or all hosts belonging to given host group. However, consequence of such approach is that we will not be able to maintain data continuity, as, basically, completely new monitors need to be created.

Good news is that, as in case of all synthetic monitors, there is standard synthetic API for managing tests. Some of our preview participants used it for generating new monitors based on extensions configuration automatically.

@Jacek_Janowicz,

Data is one of the most important things for customers. Features are important, but if data is lost or dis-contextualized, that's not good...

Additionally, that should mean that alerts, dashboards and everything associated needs to be redone. Not good, also.

We should know more about what is going to happen, as this is another consequence of the EF1 termination.

Thank you, Antonio, for sharing your feedback. Even though it has slightly bitter taste for me, I truly appreciate it and consider it very valuable.
Sometimes transitioning to a new, better solution comes with consequences, and maintaining full data continuity isn’t always feasible. However, I’ve taken note of your input, and we’ll work on making the switch to the new solution as seamless as possible.

Best Regards,

Jacek
