Can dynatrace monitor the open-file-count?

@afguerray,

No, Dynatrace does not monitor the number of open files.

This is not an easy task to do in most OSs. In Linux you've got it through lsof, and in Windows you can also see it in Resource Monitor. It's also very variable, as this number varies quite fast, as files are opened/closed in very fast sequences.

You could do it though as an OneAgent extension.

But, what's the use-case?

Hi @afguerray,

It is not the same but myabe useful for you. Instead of open files I always use this metric at linux:

builtin:host.handles.fileDescriptorsUsed

I hope it helps.

WOW! Was not aware of it. Very nice metric to have!

Also have to take back what I incorrectly said before 🤣
