Dynatrace Integrations: Where Are We Falling Short?

Hi Dynatrace Community,

I have a question, and I’m not entirely sure where to ask it, but here it goes:
I often see other tools showcasing integrations with various products, and I frequently notice their logos prominently displayed. However, I rarely, if ever, see the Dynatrace logo among them.

This makes me wonder:

Dynatrace has always been a leader in observability, offering advanced AI-driven insights and robust monitoring capabilities. However, when we look at the broader ecosystem, it seems that many native integrations are more prevalent in competing tools {insert names here}, where their logos are featured prominently.

This raises some important questions:

  • Are we not building the right partnerships with other tools?
  • Does our community need to be more vocal in driving integrations?
  • Are we missing opportunities to expand Dynatrace's reach by not having more native integrations?
  • Are we not positioning Dynatrace as a key player in collaborative ecosystems?
  • Do we, as a community, need to be more proactive in pushing for these connections?

This is an opportunity for reflection and collaboration. By understanding where we’re falling short, we can take action to ensure that Dynatrace is not only a leader in observability but also a natural choice for integrations across the ever-evolving tech landscape.

I know that proactively Dynatrace is enabling developers and partners effectively to create and showcase integrations, but it doesn’t address:

  • The lack of outreach to emerging tools.
  • The need to compete with more visible ecosystems.
  • The importance of more active community involvement.
  •  The absence of clear incentives for new developers.

This is just my humble opinion, but I believe addressing these points could help...

@rgarzon1,

This is an interesting discussion!

Dynatrace does appear frequently in many integration scenarios, and it has become more frequent with time (that's my perception). There are even two recent ones that I recall well, from the two major cloud providers, but there are a lot more:

But yes, more can/should be done. I remember this post for instance: https://community.dynatrace.com/t5/Dynatrace-tips/Pro-tip-Configure-Cloudflare-Logpush-to-Dynatrace/...

In this case, we did a competitive tender for a Company where I had the impression that we were being used as leverage to justify retaining an existing solution. And there were several scenarios that we had to prove that we were capable of doing. One of them was pushing logs from Cloudflare into Dynatrace, and we did it, much to their surprise (they thought it was not supported 🤣). I documented it almost a year ago, but still of today, the Cloudflare page states the following:

So yes, these little details do matter, and Dynatrace should be more proactive.

I can also tell you that the integration of the Dynatrace platform with other technologies/platforms is really good. Sometimes, it's even faster & easier than I could imagine. The Dynatrace Hub is also quite good, but of course, could be better.

So, as a Community, we can do many more things. One that comes to mind is asking the Community Team ( @MaciejNeumann ) to reach inside Dynatrace to have someone expand on this, and eventually suggest on how to improve the outreach of the Dynatrace Platform.

Hi!

Thanks so much for this post, as it came just in time when we are boosting our tech partnership and integrations focus and are picking our Community brains in this area.

Long story short: The Dynatrace Ecosystem now has dedicated product coverage on top of our Tech Partnership management team.

We constantly prioritize new integrations based on your input. Here are some recent examples we've launched: OpenAI, Akamai, Kong, GitLab, Tenable, Cribl, Nutanix, JFrog, Adobe Experience Manager. BTW – also Cloudflare is a great example that we captured based on Community input. Our Alliance Managers are working on making this and others more prominently exposed on the Partner side.

Just to highlight one important thing in this context: Dynatrace focuses on high quality, high impact integrations for Customers with enterprise-grade needs and critical business pipelines that cannot fail, so there should be no compromise on the quality of the integrations.

Please stay tuned for the survey that we are planning to review Community / Dynamights key needs for integrations. For now, we were analyzing the Community product ideas with that focus, but we decided it might work better to reach out for that info directly. I think this post came as a motivation that it’s needed sooner than later.

Hope it helped to assure you that this are gets proper attention and I’m looking forward to deep dive into it with our beloved Community 🙂
