Failed to generate download token

We are trying to install an Activegate and noticed that the installation setup has changed.

1. We opened the Hub and looked for Activegate.

2. After finding the installer, we were taken to a different UI, which no longer has the typical black background.

3. We click on setup, and when we click on the generate token, we get this error: "Failed to generate download token."

Is this a new activegate setup? How can I get that token working?

try to open "Access Token" from the navigation menu and generate it manually and select `InstallerDownload` scope.

How do I get to that navigation menu? I'm sorry. I'm still trying to familiarize myself with where to find stuff in Dynatrace.

in old view of Dynatrace it looks like the below screenshot

and this is the view in new Dynatrace UI

Access tokens not Personal access tokens

Hi @blade , If you are getting the "Failed to generate download token.", it could also be because of the user permissions . Please check if you have the needed permissions to generate an access token and download active gate

https://docs.dynatrace.com/docs/shortlink/sgw-install-linux

Also, if you want to use the old black background screen when installing active gate look for the " Deploy ActiveGate" and try navigating from there , you will be taken to a familiar old screen to install ActiveGate.

Looks like  you are navigating from Hub which is a new interface

Hey @blade

This seems like it could be a permissions issue. Double check that you have the required permissions for the "Discovery and Coverage" app which is where it has taken you. To see what permissions are required for any app you can search for the app in the hub just like you searched for the activegate deployment. Once on the page for the app, under the "Technical information" tab you should find the permissions required and a description for why they are. As seen below, for creating deployment tokens the "environment-api:api-tokens:write" permission is required.

Hello @blade

In case of Dynatrace managed deployments to generate a token you should have either one of the following permissions:

  1. Cluster admin permission : gives you full capability to control the managed setup entirely means cluster and Monitoring tenants "as per the current situation, you don't have such privilege".
    2024-10-28_13h26_18.png
  2. The next point "Environment Permissions" as follows:

2024-10-28_13h24_10.png

  • then you can create a token without any error messages.
  • so it's good to verify the granted user permission to your account.

KR,

Peter.

I appreciate your input and suggestions and explored them all.

The specific solution to my issue was going to the Account management\Identity and access managemen\Groups.

I modified each group to add that specific environment. The Dynatrace post sales team provided me with this solution.

Thank you!
