Question about replacing Management Zones with Segments in new Dynatrace tenants (without Classic functionalities)

NicoleMT

Hello everyone,

Could you please help us understand how to move forward with the new Dynatrace tenant structure?

We currently have a new Dynatrace tenant where the Classic functionalities are no longer available. Previously, our environment organization strategy was based on Management Zones, auto-tagging, and role-based access.

Since Management Zones are no longer available in the same way, we are now starting to review Segments, but the documentation is not very clear for us regarding how to properly design and configure them in a real environment.

Could someone please guide us with an example or best practices?

Our goal is to create segmentation based on:

  • Applications / business services

  • Infrastructure teams

  • Development teams

  • Different access scopes depending on roles

For example, we would like to understand:

  • How to structure Segments correctly

  • Whether Segments should replace the old Management Zone strategy completely

  • How to organize visibility and access for infrastructure vs development teams

  • Recommended approaches for enterprise environments in the new platform experience

Any documentation examples, architecture recommendations, or real use cases would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Hi,

If you are a Dynatrace partner, I would recommend you reading Dynatrace 3rd Generation Platform — Best Practices .
