Summary
The Dynatrace Synthetic Recorder uses Incognito mode when recording and playing back monitors to ensure that it is a clean browser instance without cookies or cached resources. However, some applications don't work as expected using Incognito mode, and some companies don't allow it to be used on their network.
This article explains how to configure the Dynatrace Synthetic Recorder to record and playback using the standard Chrome mode, without Incognito.
Note: On-demand and scheduled executions on both Public and Private locations are run using the standard Chrome mode, not Incognito, but they will always have a clean cache and no cookies.
When using the Dynatrace Synthetic Recorder without Incognito, the recording and playback will have access to your cached resources and cookies. These resources and cookies won't be available to the Dynatrace Synthetic Player when the monitor is executed on-demand or scheduled, so that you may see unexpected behavior.
How to configure the Dynatrace Synthetic Recorder to record and playback without using Incognito mode
Update the extension settings
- Disable 'Allow in Incognito' for the Synthetic Recorder
- Paste
chrome://extensions/into your Chrome address bar and select Enter. - On the Dynatrace Synthetic Recorder tile, select Details.
- Disable Allow in incognito.
- Paste
Update the Browser Monitor settings
In the WebUI, either
- Enable 'Use the recorder without incognito mode' from an existing monitor
- Open a monitor that you would like to record/ playback without Incognito mode
- Select Edit
- Select Recorded clickpath
- Enable Use the Recorder without incognito mode
or
- Enable 'Use the recorder without incognito mode' in the create a New Browser Monitor page
- In the WebUI, Go to Synthetic.
- Select Create a synthetic monitor > Create a browser monitor.
- Enable Use the recorder without incognito mode
