On PREM Solution reaches out to Azure. Any differences on costs between managed on prem and cloud Dynatrace?

Hello:

We have recently started leveraging Azure Cloud. Our on prem Dynatrace solution reaches out through one of our active gates to talk to our Azure presence. (see image)

I have a few basic questions.

  1. What costs "In Azure " occur from having Dynatrace talk to our cloud presence?
  2. Is that something that can be easily determined in Azure? (I don't know where or how to check)
  3. Is there a way to determine "Your on prem Dynatrace connection to azure resulted in "X" charges.?
  4. How would Dynatrace be filtered on specifically?
  5. Also, would the charged be different if we were leveraging a cloud based Dynatrace solution vs an on prem? Is there a general costs difference to compare with? (For example: typically cloud Dynatrace is  %50 more/less than on prem?)

Thank you community as always. I appreciate all the feedback you have provided over the years !

😁

So a few things.

1 - Dynatrace SaaS has posture in AWS, and Azure, and I think... GCP.... So if you are a SaaS customer you can have your instance live in the Cloud Providers overall domain.

2 - As it relates to Cloud provider charges, depending on how your metrics are being sent, You will be charged from the Cloud provider either way if you are a Dynatrace SaaS customer vs an OnPrem customer.

3 - OneAgents first. I recommend you using the OneAgent before doing any streams, as streams from the CP will incur costs.

It would be wise to talk to your Account Rep as it relates to the licensing cost for SaaS vs OnPrem. From what I've seen customer to customer, the cost is really subject to the overall deal you are making. A 3 year commit, as Onprem or SaaS will have discounts over a 1 year renewal. Doing a DPS spend vs the bucketing approach of Host Groups, RUM etc... The biggest thing to keep in mind with SaaS vs Onprem is the Infrastructure cost and maintenance. Keep in mind, As OnPrem, you will be hosting the instance which coudl be used as a write off, but that means you also have to support it. SaaS, is the opposite, no need to manage the cluster, more time focusing on your overall instance and monitoring.

I hope this helps
