Hello Gilles! Shed some light on your life's journey.

Born in France, yet one could say I'm more of a European citizen. Indeed, after 5 years at engineering school in Lyon (France), I moved to CERN next to Geneva for a year and a half. It was fantastic! I worked on the ALICE experiment, focusing on DB subjects.

Then I moved to Ireland for 5 years. That's why I have a gorgeous Irish accent in my English. I worked with the Iona company on the Orbix build pipeline. Next, back in the mountains of Switzerland, I settled in the city of Lausanne, a beautiful place on a lake. That's a little over 20 years I have been in the area.

I am keen on science in general. Physics. Yet that was the IT department that caught me in high school. Fine.

What is your professional background?

I work in the finance industry, in the DevOps team. Specifically, we are not a software company, yet we have all IT in-house: facilities, hardware, and people. My team supports developers and builds the software factory. I touched many versioning systems, built solutions, and CI/CD pipelines. The challenge is to integrate many heterogeneous systems and solutions, some with long histories. For the last few years, I focused on the enterprise monitoring solution: we had to migrate from externally provided solutions to on-prem.

At work.At work.

How does Dynatrace fit into the picture, and what was the biggest challenge Dynatrace helped you overcome?

We are using Dynatrace Managed. It's of utter importance that we can manage our data on prem. An interesting difficulty Dynatrace helps solve is to unify infrastructure vision as well as app management.

What makes Dynatrace Community important to you?

My interest in these types of forum solutions comes from an involvement quite a long time ago on Wikipedia.

"It's as good as we make it good.
It can be wonderful."

The forums and documentation are my daily go-to reference. I wish there would be a little more AI functionalities to help scan through this massive KB! It helps me massively understand the product and have hands-on experience from others. I solved many difficulties through the forum.

I'd say to someone new: if you have a solution, share it! Even a non-complete one helps find the path.

Tell us something about you that most people don't know. What is your biggest joy or passion in life?

Mountains are my place. I am not a hard goer, yet I enjoy mountaineering as well as cross-country skiing, canyoning, and rock climbing not so often.

I also play traditional Irish music on the transverse flute for 30+ years: that's a passion. This is why I spent some time in Ireland: be close to the music spring. No better place for this!

In the mountains.In the mountains.

List a few facts we likely didn't know about you! What's on your bucket list?

I used to juggle a lot when I was young. At the time, I worked a bit on five clubs juggling.
