Hello Jean! Shed some light on your life's journey.

I grew up in the Loire department in France, near Lyon. As a child, I was pretty calm, reserved, and well-behaved… but also very curious.

I knew quite early that I wanted to work in IT. I started doing some development when I was around 10 years old, and I was already fascinated by computers, software, and everything happening behind the screen. The old DOS and Windows 95 days definitely helped build that passion.

What attracted me most was the mix of technology and logic. I liked understanding how systems worked, solving problems, and building things. Advanced mathematics was never really my favorite part, but practical logic and technical challenges? Absolutely.

I studied in a scientific track in France, starting with a general scientific high school diploma, then continuing with an IUT and later an engineering school.

My move into APM, observability, and performance came after seven years in software development, including three years in a work-study program in Lyon. Then I saw an opportunity at Phenisys, applied for it, and that is where a new chapter really started.

What is your professional background?

Today, I work at Phenisys, a French Dynatrace partner and a pure-play recognized for its expertise in observability for the last 15 years.

I'm a Senior Observability & Performance Consultant. My job is to help organizations gain better visibility into their IT systems and turn that visibility into action.

For more than 10 years, I've been helping ambitious companies succeed in their digital transformation by building tailored observability, automation, and performance optimization strategies.

My daily work is very diverse, which is something I really enjoy. I work on observability, APM, logs, tracing, infrastructure, automation, governance, and adoption—so a little bit of everything. That variety is part of the fun.

I mainly work with large enterprise customers, across many different sectors such as retail, insurance, industry, and the public sector. I like changing context, changing challenges, and learning how each business sees technology through its own lens.

How does Dynatrace fit into the picture, and what was the biggest challenge Dynatrace helped you overcome?

I discovered Dynatrace in 2017, when I joined Phenisys and started working with AppMon. So yes… I've been around since the earlier chapters. 🙂

What impressed me right away was the power and completeness of the platform. Dynatrace is not just a monitoring solution to me—it is a real observability platform that helps connect data, context, and action.

Today, I work mainly with Dynatrace SaaS, but I also support some customers running Managed environments.

One of the most interesting challenges Dynatrace helped me solve was around the mapping and management of network devices. A customer needed a way to manage around 7,000 network devices inside Dynatrace. To address that, I developed a custom Dynatrace application using the Dynatrace SDK and the extended capabilities of Grail. It was a great example of how flexible the platform can be when you need to go beyond standard use cases.

That is also one of the reasons I like Dynatrace so much: it is already strong out of the box, but it also gives you the tools to build something tailored when the use case becomes more specific or more demanding.

On the technical side, some of the hardest challenges are definitely "black box" applications. Those are always interesting… once the stress is over. In these cases, you often need advanced configuration or creative workarounds. A good example is when you need to correlate logs with metrics and traces coming from OneAgent and other sources. When visibility is limited, observability becomes both more difficult and more valuable.

What makes Dynatrace Community important to you?

I first came to the Dynatrace Community to find resources and use cases related to my own needs.

What made me stay was the quality of the technical exchanges. I’m passionate about observability, so having a place where people share practical knowledge, real-world challenges, and feedback is extremely valuable.

"What I appreciate the most is the expertise, the peer-to-peer discussions, and the return on experience from actual users of the platform. For me, those insights are incredibly useful because they go beyond theory and show how things really work in the field."

The Community helps me in my job by giving me ideas, confirming technical directions, and helping me answer prospects and customers when similar needs or use cases have already been discussed.

My advice for someone who is just getting started would be simple: search, ask, and share. Don’t hesitate to look for answers, ask your own questions, and also help newer members when you can. That is how a good technical community becomes a great one.

Tell us something about you that most people don't know. What is your biggest joy or passion in life?

Outside of work, my passion is still… technology. Apparently, I'm very consistent. 🙂

I'm especially interested in home automation, robotics, and new technologies in general. One of my favorite personal projects has been automating a 1970s house. Over time, I've worked on heating, alarm systems, lighting, pool management, and solar + battery optimization to improve both comfort and energy efficiency.

It takes a lot of time, but I genuinely enjoy it. It is technical, practical, and very satisfying when everything works together.

And of course, there is also the family reality check: my wife and children are supposed to gain comfort from all this technology… and I'm proud when that happens. Even if, from time to time, the "smart" home decides to become a little less smart. 🙂

There is definitely a link between this passion and the way I work. In both cases, I like understanding systems, connecting components, automating repetitive tasks, and making things more reliable and useful for others.

One thing I'd really like to keep improving is the automation around me in daily life. My goal is simple: improve my family's comfort and save as much time as possible so we can spend more of it together.

Today, we already have many technologies that make everyday life easier—robot lawn mowers, robot vacuum cleaners, smart home systems, and more. I find it fascinating to see how all these tools can remove repetitive tasks and give back a bit of precious time.

In a way, it is very similar to what I do for my customers. The automations I help put in place in IT are also there to make daily life easier: reducing manual work, improving efficiency, and letting people focus on what really matters. So whether it's at home or at work, the idea is often the same: automate smartly to make life better.

What achievement are you most proud of?

Professionally, I'm most proud of being able to combine passion and profession. Working in a field that I genuinely enjoy every day is something I don't take for granted.

I'm also proud of the journey itself. I started in software development, then moved into observability and performance, and over time I built a role where I can help major organizations solve complex technical problems in a very concrete way. That evolution means a lot to me.

What I'm especially proud of is being able to bring clarity to difficult situations. Whether it is designing a custom Dynatrace application to manage 7,000 network devices, dealing with difficult black box applications, or correlating logs, metrics, and traces across different sources, I enjoy turning technical complexity into something useful and actionable.

I'm also proud of my place at Phenisys. Being trusted, supported, and able to evolve in an environment where I can keep learning and contributing is something I truly value.

On the personal side, I'm most proud of having built my family and being able to support them as best as I can. In the end, that is probably the achievement that matters most.

Anything else you'd like to share with the Community?

First, I would like to thank Phenisys for the trust and support of the whole team. That trust allows me to grow in my field with both peace of mind and real enjoyment, and I'm very grateful for that.

I would also like to thank the Dynatrace Community. It is a great place to learn, exchange ideas, and connect with people who truly understand the challenges of observability and performance.

My message to the Community is simple: share your knowledge, and don't hesitate to ask for help. The best communities are built on that balance.

And finally, one last fun note: I'm a big fan of Perform in Las Vegas, and I've had the chance to attend multiple times. I also recently renewed my Dynatrace Professional certification, which was another nice milestone in the journey.

Congratulations @JeanBlanc !
Is the dashboard from Home Assistant? Vibe-coding?

Thanks @AntonioSousa

Not Home Assistant yet 🙂 It’s a custom dashboard design using CSS and images, with button implementations running on Jeedom, a French home automation solution.

That said, a migration to Home Assistant is planned 😉
