Fetching availability of browser synthetic and HTTP monitors using DQL

mukunda
Observer

I am exploring the new Dynatrace dashboard and I want to fetch the availability of browser synthetic and HTTP monitors as was possible in the classic Dashboards. I am able to retrieve the list of monitors currently monitored, but am unable to figure out the query to fetch their availability based on dynamic timeframe. I want to fetch the data via DQL and not make use of the metrics API for the same.

Hi @mukunda, were you able to solve your issue in the meanwhile? If not, let's hope more Community members will see this question and come forward with the answer for you 🤞

The only constant is change. Finding ways for great things to happen!

hi @mukunda

Synthetic metrics will be available in Grail as a Preview starting from Dynatrace version 269.

Please, let me know if you're interested in participating in such preview, we can discuss details then.

Best Regards,

Jacek

I would definitely be interested in participating in this preview.

👍 Added  you to my list

Will reach out to you soon. Is it OK to use email address you used for registering to Dynatrace community?

Jacek

Yes, you can use the email I have used to register to Dynatrace community.

Does anyone have an example query to chart out availability of synthetic and http monitors for the new dashboards?

Hi,

the availability metrics of synthetic monitors are not in Grail yet, but the good news is that we will release them this quarter.

strangely I can already fetch certain info using timeseries, but am as of yet unable to just retrieve the availability status (. healthcheck ) for a specific http check step.

Not yet available.
You can check if it's available filtering the metrics

Unfortunately I can't seem to use these in the new type dashboard. The plan was to show nice availability blocks in the newer dashboard as a demo for the teams we are onboarding on Dynatrace within our company.  Seems not all functionality is available yet through DQL queries.

Hi,

In the documentation, you can find the metrics currently available in Grail underBuilt-in Metrics on Grail. We already support:

  • HTTP metrics
  • Network Availability Monitoring metrics
  • 3rd party monitors
  • Basic set of browser monitor metrics

What’s next:

We’re currently working on built-in synthetic dashboards, which should be available very soon. All the dashboard elements will be based on generic dashboard visualizations, but we also plan to create dedicated dashboard tiles for synthetic monitoring.

Soon, we will provide a migration guide in the documentation to help you transition from the old synthetic metrics to the new ones on Grail.
