How to query external API from Dynatrace periodically and fetch the data ?

How can I periodically query an external API from Dynatrace and fetch the data ? What requirements are needed from the external API side, and what is needed from Dynatrace side?

You can set up a workflow that supports several different triggers and schedules, and create a task of HTTP request type.

External endpoint must be allowed under settings - preferences - Limit outbound connections.
