Dynatrace managed - xMatters integration

Peter_Youssef
Leader

The below procedures describe the integration configurations between xMatters and Dynatrace for problem notifications.

Prerequisites:

  • Communications should be allowed either between Dynatrace cluster nodes or ActiveGates and xMatters webhook URL.

On xMatters side

  1. Go to the Workflow Templates page and click the Dynatrace tile.
  2. On the Set up the Workflow tab, give the workflow a name that identifies its purpose (this must be unique in your instance), add an optional description, and set the default incident type (if applicable). Any built-in Initiate Incident steps in the workflow will automatically be set to the selected incident type.
    • You can edit these later, if needed

  1. Click Next to set up the connection.
  2. Copy the trigger URL — you’ll use this to configure the webhooks in Dynatrace.
    • The trigger URL includes the recipients parameter, which specifies who should be notified. By default, this parameter is set to notify you (the logged in user), but you can set it to target any user or group you want.

  1. Send a test signal to the trigger URL to test the connection.
  2. Click Open Workflow to view and customize the workflow, or Close to return to the Workflows page.

On Dynatrace side

  • Having cluster admin privileges would be better, but you can also configure it through having "Change monitoring settings", "Download & install OneAgent", "Access environment".
  • Under Manage menu > Settings > Integration > Problem notifications

  • Specify the below parameters.

  • Send test notification to ensure it works as expected.

Hello @Peter_Youssef

Integrating Dynatrace with xMatters via Webhook can pose a security risk due to the exposure of the API key in the Webhook URL.
The API key is visible in the webhook URL, making it susceptible to being logged, cached, or accidentally shared.

Is there any plan to use secret?

Hi @attilaa

Thanks for your valuable insight, it can be shared with Dynatrace as a product idea.
BR,

Peter.
