Comprehensive Tagging Strategy especially for Organizational and Billing purposes.

HI, I have just gained my DT Associate Certification so a bit of a newbie still  😁 ....and this is my first post🙄. I am working on building a comprehensive Tagging Strategy as a Managed Services provider. By default, each customer will be allocated their own Environment. But within the Tenant(customer) we may still require breakdown usage/cost consumed by e.g. a department or other organizational unit. So, we want to assign Tags predominately for their Organizational benefit e.g. to make reporting easier (more friendly), make billing granular e.g. down to individual depts within a customer etc. etc. So, interested if there is published example/s of a comprehensive Tagging strategy, that covers all Dynatrace Capabilities that are consumed and billed for? Also including suggestions where to assign Tags and where to use Metadata! 🤔 I know over time these will need to be refine and have ongoing development but if we get the base model right for Tagging....from day one it will mean we have the right foundation to cover future organizational needs. Appreciate any help especially practical examples you can give 🤗. Many thanks in advance.

Hello Peter!
Congrats on the Associate Certification, it is a really good first milestone in your Dynatrace Journey.

I would recommend some online documentation that you can use as a starting point for a Dynatrace environment:

https://github.com/dynatrace-ace-services/fundamentals

The approach normally is to set comprehensive host groups and then extract that information using a regex in an automated tag rule. Having host groups in the form of Environment_Application_Org, for example, lets you pass the tags to Hosts, Processes, and Services.

Hope you a good monitoring!
