Could Someone Help me Out with Optimizing Dynatrace for My Application?

Hello there,

I am new to Dynatrace, and I am currently in the process of optimizing it for my application. I have gone through the documentation, but I am still facing some challenges, and I was hoping someone here might be able to offer some guidance.

I want to make sure I am accurately monitoring the performance of my application and identifying any bottlenecks.

I am looking to create custom dashboards that provide me with the specific metrics I need to monitor.

I need help setting up alerts so that I'm notified when certain performance thresholds are exceeded.

I am interested in gaining insights into user behavior on my application and how I can use this information to improve performance.

Also, I have gone through this post: https://www.dynatrace.com/news/blog/how-to-optimize-digital-experience-aws-devops-and-operations-with-dynatrace/ which definitely helped me out a lot.

If anyone has experience with any of these areas and can offer some advice or point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thankyou in advance for your help and assistance.

It’s great to hear that you’re optimizing Dynatrace for your application. Here is some guidance to help you with monitoring performance, creating custom dashboards, and setting up alerts.

  1. Monitoring Application Performance:

    • Ensure you have the Dynatrace OneAgent installed on all relevant hosts. This will enable deep monitoring.
    • Utilize Dynatrace’s automated baseline monitoring to detect anomalies in performance metrics.
    • Use Service Flow and PurePath technology to trace transactions end-to-end, identifying any bottlenecks.
  2. Creating Custom Dashboards:

  3. Setting Up Alerts:

    • Create alerting profiles tailored to your application’s needs.
    • Define custom alert conditions for key performance indicators such as:
      • SLO availability
      • SLO performance
    • Ensure alerts are set up to notify you via preferred channels (email, Slack, Teams, and more).
  4. Gaining Insights into User Behavior:

    • Use the ‘User sessions’ feature to analyze user interactions with your application.
    • Leverage Real User Monitoring (RUM) to gather data on user experience, such as:
      • Load times
      • Click rage
    • Utilize ‘Session Replay’ to visually inspect user sessions and identify usability issues.

If you have specific questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. The Dynatrace community is very supportive and full of knowledgeable individuals ready to help.
