Dear All,

Why are most of the exception messages masked?

Hi @Babar_Qayyum ,

This could be due to a variety of reasons, but the main two are based on how Dynatrace masks personal level data, and the level of permissions that could be associated with you as a user on the platform, along with what those permissions entail in your ability to view sensitive data.

More on that can be found in the official documentation here:

https://docs.dynatrace.com/docs/manage/data-privacy-and-security/data-privacy/personal-data-captured...

https://docs.dynatrace.com/docs/manage/data-privacy-and-security/configuration/configure-global-priv...

I would suggest checking two things based on this:

1. What is the data you are masking at capture?

2. What are your permissions as a user and what are the current restrictions in place for you to be able to view sensitive data?

Hello @Taylor-Sanchez

Thank you for your comments.

I have a Cluster admin role & only the following has been configured for masking at capture.

Hi @Babar_Qayyum

I would check if this mask is outcome of a management zone filter that is set on.

Hello @Yosi_Neuman

I verified your suggested point. The subject issue is there with or without management zone filtration.

It is a functionality partial new, maybe have some specific configuration.

I hope it's helpful 💪

Hello @PierreGutierrez

I verified, except for the second last, remaining options are disabled.

Also, after disabling the enabled option, the same situation exists.

Hi @Babar_Qayyum
I understand that you have enabled the "Mask personal data in URIs" option, and for that reason a "Masked" is being applied to some of the values mentioned in the Data Privacy rule

PierreGutierrez_1-1716753317711.png

As Dynatrace says, that value applied "masked" will be applied even in the Error analysis.

Therefore, I think it is correct to assume that the Message Exception meets some of the conditions for it to be masked.

I think the question would be: Has the Message Exception of that analyzed service had some type of customization in the code? Do you have a way to validate which Message Exceptions are delivered in the request?

Something else that occurs to me is that you check the section:
Settings>Failure detection> General parameters

Maybe there is some exception rule in place

Hello @Romanenkov_Al3x

What was your problem? 🙂

Regards,

Babar

After update - some of the data was hidden and some was not.
