How to keep DEM license for Synthetic?

nkobayashi1

Hi,

We have heard that the RUM and Synthetic license are unified as DEM license.
And we afraid that the Synthetic monitor will stop when the RUM session increases too much.

Could you tell me whether it is possible to keep DEM license for Synthetic?
We want the synthetic monitor to keep running.

Thanks, Noah

Yes, you can configure per evironment the quota distribution of DEM units among "sessions" and "synthetics". In your case you can set sessions limit "0" and synthetics "unlimited" to just utilize DEM units for synthetics.

Hi Radoslaw,

Thank you for your quick answer!
I suppose that the setting is in the account setting screen.
Could you provide sample screenshot of the setting screen if it is possible?

Because we don't have permission to access account setting screen of the customer environment.

Thanks, Noah

Ahh, so I assume you are using Dynatrace SaaS.

As some customers only want either synthetic monitors or sessions, we
provide a way to disable it individually. License management can disable
synthetic monitors or sessions upon request for a customer that
licensed DEM units.

Hi Radoslaw,

Yes, I have said about SaaS.

Could you check my understanding?

  • There is no way to leave certain amount DEM license for Synthetic (or RUM) in case of Dynatrace SaaS.
  • What we can do to control DEM license is to ask your license management team to disable RUM(or Synthetic) if it is needed.

If that is correct, we need workaround about that...

Thanks, Noah

* I edited this comment for misunderstanding.

There is a way to configure it like that but you need to contact with License Management. I cannot paste here a screnshot as this is internal part of our system.

Is there a DEM units calculator? I need it for estimates to move from Synthetic Classic (aka Gomez/Advanced Synthetics/etc.) to Dynatrace Synthetic (using DEM units). This calculator would also be great for running consumption projections per app.

There is no calculator for such usage. Generally you have to know how many users are using your site weekly, and than you can estimate some value. This is how we are making such math.
