OneAgent support for HP-UX?

john_liebal1

Hi -- is the OneAgent compatible with HP-UX? I do not see an option for that under "Deploy Dynatrace", and it does not appear to be listed in documentation:

https://www.dynatrace.com/support/help/technology-...

Is there any plan for thisin the future?

@John L.

there isn't and as far as I know HP-UX itself is no longer supported by its manufacturer, so I doubt if there will be an agent for that in the future.

Hi John. I am afraid we have no plans to support HP-UX for OneAgent. The system has very low footprint and we have not heard a lot of requests for its support.

Hi! What if I have Weblogic Server but running HP-UX?

There is no workaround, you have to migrate to different platform to be able to use Dynatrace.

The Remote Linux Monitoring (ActiveGate) extension is an option 😉

I would say this is missed opportunity from Dynatrace when reaching out to big enterprises

We do evaluate opportunities such as HPUX on a regular basis. At this juncture it does not make sense for us to provide FullStack level of monitoring for HPUX; however, there is still quite a lot of infrastructure monitoring that can already be done for HPUX. SNMP polling and traps are supported. Log ingestion is possible. If you need help getting started, our Platform Extensions team is always here to help as well.

I am currently working on an assessment for a potential enterprise customer whose technology stack still includes several critical systems running on HP-UX 11.23 and HP-UX 11.31.

I understand that native OneAgent Full Stack monitoring is not available for HP-UX, but because these systems remain part of critical production transaction flows, I would like to understand what is currently the best possible observability approach that Dynatrace can realistically offer in such environments.

The HP-UX systems are integrated with supported Linux and Java platforms where Dynatrace Full Stack monitoring would be deployed, so transaction flows cross both supported and unsupported platforms.

I would appreciate practical guidance on:

  1. What monitoring options are currently considered applicable for HP-UX environments within Dynatrace?

  2. What level of visibility can realistically be achieved for infrastructure, processes, logs, and dependencies?

  3. Are there recommended extensions, integrations, or other approaches typically used in such customer scenarios?

  4. In practice, how are HP-UX systems usually positioned during enterprise observability projects where full code-level visibility is not possible?

  5. Are there known best practices from similar customer environments where HP-UX still remains part of the production landscape?

The goal is to understand what maximum value can currently be delivered in this type of mixed modern / legacy environment and how best to position expectations during the assessment.

Thank you in advance for any guidance.

@deni  Basically, you can't deploy Dynatrace OneAgent on HP-UX.  HP-UX is, in fact, a discontinued and unsupported OS, by HPE.

For OS / infra you can use https://www.dynatrace.com/hub/detail/remote-unix-monitoring-20/
For logs, you can engage any tooling that is available for HP-UX, and you are able to ingest logs to Dynatrace using API.

For application observability, I'd recommend exploring OpenTelemetry for the applications (especially Java).
It really depends on how much effort you want to spend on a dead platform.
