Synthetic Monitoring An Endpoint Through A VPN Tunnel

RobertDring

I need to monitor an endpoint that is in a vpn tunnel, i.e. to connect to this endpoint you need to go through a vpn.  Has anyone managed to use a synthetic through a vpn to test an endpoint that way ?

Would be interested how you would achieve that ?

Kind regards

Rob

Hello Rob. I asked support, you can try these steps below:

1. Deploy a private Synthetic location (look doc below) within your network that has access to the VPN.
2. Ensure the private Synthetic location is configured to route traffic through the VPN tunnel.
3. Ensure that the VPN client is installed and configured on the machine or network where the private Synthetic location is deployed.
4. In the Dynatrace web UI, navigate to Settings > Web and Mobile monitoring > Synthetic monitors.
5. Create a new HTTP monitor and specify the API endpoint you want to monitor.
6. Select the private Synthetic location you set up earlier to run the monitor.
7. Run the synthetic monitor and ensure it can successfully connect to the API endpoint through the VPN.
