Yes. This is in our plans, and it’s designed to make managing Synthetic monitors significantly easier for users!
We are transitioning Synthetic to the Dynatrace Platform API, which will replace the current RBAC-based API. This transition will allow us to introduce a dedicated set of Synthetic-specific privileges (enabling read and write Synthetic settings). These new privileges will allow users to create and manage synthetic monitors without needing full administrator rights. This provides a much more streamlined and flexible solution compared to relying on security contexts.
Because this model will be based on the new Dynatrace Platform API, the latest Dynatrace will be required to access the new Synthetic-specific privileges. The new privileges will be fully supported within the new Synthetic application. This way, it will benefit not only automation practitioners but also standard users managing Synthetic through the modern UI.
The introduction of these new privileges is designed to make the experience as frictionless as possible for all user groups:
- For most end users: The change will feel seamless, delivering greater flexibility and autonomy in managing synthetic monitors.
- For automation practitioners: Those who rely heavily on APIs will need to adjust their API calls and authorization tokens when switching to the new Dynatrace Platform API.
- For administrators: Updating access policies will involve minor adjustments to incorporate the new privileges. To simplify this process, we will provide predefined policy templates that can either be adopted as-is or customized to fit specific organizational needs
