Summary

Metrics such as Total Heap, Thread Metrics, Contention Rate, and GC metrics stop being visible under .NET metrics or Further Details tabs after updating to OneAgent 1.301+.

Problem

Older versions of .NET, below version 5, required metric collection through WMI calls made by OneAgent extensions.

As of OneAgent version 1.301, the Dynatrace Extension 1.0 framework that collected these metrics was retired.

Resolution

Enable the .NET monitoring Extension under the Dynatrace Extension 2.0 framework through the Dynatrace Hub.

To do this, you'll need to deploy the Dynatrace Extension 2.0 version of the extension via the Dynatrace Hub within your environment. Documentation and installation instructions can be found here.

Note

The new extension creates/uses a new metric ID, so the data it collects will be visible under a Custom Device created by the extension, rather than the metrics being placed under the existing .NET process group instances running on your hosts, etc., as seen previously.

Alternative Resolution for .NET versions 5+

Newer .NET versions, 5+, are built on top of the .NET Core runtime, which makes alternative data collection routes possible, so this extension is unnecessary with said .NET deployments.
