In this video, I walk you through the step-by-step process of setting up a Private Location in Dynatrace to run Synthetic Monitors behind firewalls or in internal environments. This is useful when you need to monitor internal applications, APIs, or services that are not publicly accessible.

🔍 Topics Covered:

  • What is a Private Synthetic Location?

  • Prerequisites before setup

  • Installing the ActiveGate component

  • Assigning the location to Synthetic Monitors

  • Testing and validating the configuration

Why Use a Private Location?
Private locations in Dynatrace allow you to:

  • Monitor internal applications (non-public URLs)

  • Maintain security by keeping traffic within your network

  • Customize testing from specific network zones

Tools/Requirements:

  • Dynatrace environment access

  • ActiveGate installer

  • Admin privileges on the machine where you're installing

Steps Shown in the Video:

  1. Log in to Dynatrace

  2. Navigate to Synthetic Settings > Private Locations

  3. Click on "Create a private location."

  4. Name your location and set up any required tags

  5. Download and install the ActiveGate on a machine inside your private network

  6. Connect the ActiveGate with the Dynatrace environment

  7. Verify that the ActiveGate is associated with your new private location
