Distributed Traces have empowered Architects, SREs, and Performance Engineers to understand and optimize complex distributed systems. Thanks to OpenTelemetry, Distributed Traces are now also available in cloud-native environments. But what is a span, and how is it different from a request or a trace? How would one analyze traces, and what advanced analytics use cases are possible when combining traces with logs, metrics, or topology data?

In this episode, Christoph Neumueller @Christoph_Neum, senior principal Product Architect at Dynatrace, walks us through the anatomy of a trace and how Dynatrace unleashes its power by connecting all signals of observability and making them queryable through DQL (Dynatrace Query Language).
