Forum tip: Dark Mode

Hello Dynatrace Community and welcome to the Dark Side!

Earlier this year in the Community survey some of you signaled the need for a dark mode function, and we've heard you! As a new tech stack from Khoros that will allow the Community to have a dark mode of our own is still on its way, we'd like to present you with some workarounds you could use for now.

Dark Reader

It's a browser extension (available for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari*). Free of charge, easy to use, and customizable. While testing it we've noticed a slight performance lull, but not big enough to disturb your flow 🌊

Extra kudos for the option of forcing dark mode only on particular domains!

Night Eye

It's another extension, which is available for every widely-used browser. It's also free of charge (as a three-months trial of a Pro version or a forever-free version - Night Eye Lite). It's just as easy to use, and you can adjust it to your liking with only a few clicks.

You can use the Lite version on up to one browser for five websites of your choosing.

Built-In dark mode of your browser

If for some reason extensions aren't for you, or maybe you'd like to force dark mode onto every website you're visiting, we've got you covered too! Explore the built-in functionality of your browser ⬇️

Chrome

This happened to be the most aesthetically pleasing and smoothly working solution we've tested.

And it's easy to enable, too.

  1. Go to chrome://flags/
  2. Type enable-force-dark in the Search flags box at the top of the Experiments tab.

Edge

  1. To enable it, type edge://flags into Edge’s address bar and press Enter.
  2. Search for “Dark Mode” in the search box at the top of the Experiments page.
  3. Click the “Force Dark Mode for Web Contents” box and select “Enabled.”

Opera

  1. Tap “Settings” at the bottom of the popup menu, to open the in-app settings.
  2. Tap “Settings” at the bottom of the in-app settings.
  3. In Opera Touch's settings, tap “Dark web pages”, which can be found at the bottom of the “Browser” section.
  4. Tap “Dark web pages” to configure the dark web pages mode.

Been using Dark Reader for a long time, it works great!

Quite a few dynatracers have asked how they missed the dark mode and were to find it in the settings 😋

Great Tip, I have asked for dark mode since the new forum was released. Thanks @Ana_Kuzmenchuk

The true delight is in the finding out rather than in the knowing.

Hi,

Thank you @Ana_Kuzmenchuk, I would like an out-of-the-box solution as in Dynatrace University:

But I am not sure correct place to raise this idea, since it is not about product itself.

Best regards

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. You can definitely drop ideas for Community enhancement in our 2023 survey, once it's closed we will go through all ideas and decide what can be done in the closest timeline 😎

And in the future feel free to submit product ideas in the product ideas section, just tag it as Community so our team knows it's for us to look into 🙂

Thank you!

I have just raised a product idea about it.

Best regards
