Hello Community,
Our users are coming from all around the world, which makes us incredibly happy. Last month our winner came to us from Russia, and now we are moving west to sunny Catalonia. Let’s all congratulate our Community Member of the Month for September: Josep Maria Camps Riba! Over 100 questions, 100 comments, and almost 80 answers – @Josep Maria C. is active all around the forum, both getting to know Dynatrace a little better and helping others, when he can.
Can you tell a little bit about your professional life? Where do you work and what do you do in your job?
Hi everyone, I was a passionate software developer with over than 25 years fighting and trying to survive in software development world, mainly in Java/Java EE and Microsoft/.NET environments. I am interested in all aspects related to software design, development, optimization and testing. Continuous learning is what makes this job really funny.
In the last 5 years ago, I have been focused on DevOps/APM and I use several tools in order to optimize and solve issues in critical production systems. In the APM area my main goal now is to help my customers to monitor their systems with confidence and to do some RCA analysis and optimizations when their systems fail or go slow. In the software development area, my main goal and challenge now is to understand how functional programming paradigms can help us to implement scalable solutions that meet the needs of scalability, parallelism and productivity required by current market.
Teaching also fascinates me, in this subject I have combined my job in Cast-Info/Aubay as a software developer and APM leader with the task of lecturer at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, teaching several courses in Computer Engineering.
As you can see, my work on different projects and on the college, has given me the opportunity to change from development environment, programming language and development methodology frequently and stimulated inside me the need to continuously learning.
What is your story with Dynatrace? Why did you start using our products and for what project?
My love history with Dynatrace begins in approximately 2015 when my company, Cast-Info, chose Dynatrace AppMon as the APM platform on which to offer optimization and monitoring services to its customers. From then on, I became one of the company's experts in Dynatrace AppMon and I did a multitude of PoC's and implantations for our customers, showing them its benefits and how Dynatrace AppMon could help them.
One of these PoCs was for my current customer, a major company in the banking sector. After the PoC they adopted Dynatrace AppMon as a monitoring tool for their production systems and some of us became part of their Optimization Middleware department. Now we are migrating from AppMon to Dynatrace and learning hard how Dynatrace can help us with the monitoring of production systems and optimization analysis just as well as AppMon has done so far.
Have you ever had any interesting use case for Dynatrace product that you found out to be particularly intriguing? Could you tell us about it?
Yes absolutely, it is impressive how the AI problem detection module works, capable of targeting the root cause of a problem with hundreds of microservices involved. Just thinking about the time of analysis and correlation of information that we should do without a tool of this type gives me a headache.
What brought you to our community? What is your best memory about it?I would also like to value the speed of those responses, that makes you realize how experts the members of the community are with this tool and how much they love to help.
I would like to highlight the contributions of Andreas Grabner, especially at the beginning with AppMon. His answers in the forum are always spot on and clarifying. His "Performance Clinics" are simply the best.
And how about your life outside the IT – what is your biggest passion?
Apart from all the activities related to my work, I like mountain biking, running and any outdoor sport. I also love travelling to remote places with my wife and, of course, I love watching the Barça team playing football, drinking a very cold beer.
For 7 years my new passion has been my two little kids. I love watching them grow, both inside and out, and how they develop their skills and their passions.
It would also be great if you could share with us your favorite movie, song and/or a book. Let other Community members discover something new and interesting to watch/hear/read 🙂
Writing these lines, I was listening to a song by Blaumut, a Catalan music band that makes poetry with their songs. So, as the song is in Catalan, it’s a good chance for you to see how the language of my small but beautiful country sounds like 😉
My last reading has been the trilogy written by the Israeli author Yuval Noah Harari: Sapiens A Brief History of Humankind, Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow, 21 Lessons for the 21st Century. Highly recommended to reflect on how the humanity arrive here and what are the big challenges that the future holds for us as humans.
The last film I have watched is Ready Player One from Steven Spielberg, it is not a masterpiece but a funny movie to spend a good summer afternoon.
