Dynatrace is creating multiple entities of idle instances with the same name

We are collecting database and docker component data through the API.  As a part of these calls we are seeing duplicate instances of these components in an idle state(this occurs when a DB/Docker component is restarted).  Is there a way to purge/consolidate these invalid idle instances? or clean up the api calls somehow?
