Custom metrics is unable to fetch data for some dimensions.

Hello ,

I created custom metrics 3-4 days ago to display data on dashboard, but in data explorer I am unable to see data for the dimensions like failed request count, failure rate etc.

Because of this my dashboard is looking like this:

Please let me know what can be the reason behind this. And please help me resolve this.

Could you please share how the custom metrics are created and the data explorer queries?

Hello @suryansh21

  • It depends on how you have created the metric and the actual results that have been shown while executing the preview.
  • If the requirements are straightforward like Response time, failure rate, error counts, requests you can create detailed tiles using filter by and split by instead of creating a custom metric at the beginning.
  • The custom metric is being created when we need a deep level of insights and alerting on a specific conditions, if it's not the case proceed with the out-of-the box metrics which are available through Data Explorer, and Metrics UI as well.

Hoping it helps.

Hi @suryansh21

Another important factors to consider:

  • Are these services properly monitored in Dynatrace and you can observe the traffic.
  • You can check either on the Data explorer or Metric UI the metric is fed with the accurate monitoring signals or not.
  • Check if the intended services are active or inactive.
  • Check the timeframe set to each tile and the Dashboard as well.
  • Check if there is communication issue or traffic blocking the monitoring signals either through the Firewall or Network side.

KR,

Peter.
