Unable to add a variable in a dashboard

Hi,
I am trying to add a variable in my dashboard using the doc shared here
Add a variable to a dashboard - Dynatrace Docs

But I do not see an option to add a variable. Is there a separate access role etc. required to add a variable, or is it just that my Dynatrace version does not support this?
