Hi, we're big users of slim operating systems like BottleRocket here. As you know, Dynatrace OneAgent doesn't support collecting host metrics on Bottlerocket and other unsupported operating systems.
The OTel host collectors have no problems gathering these metrics, however:
- They incur higher costs to ingest than native metrics.
- The metrics collected do not integrate with core Host dashboards or problem detectors.
The last time I spoke with Dynatrace (around 12 months ago) we were told that better support for OTel host collector was coming, but I have not seen this materialise.
- Is this work still planned?
- What are the timescales?
It seems as though proper support for OTel has not gone beyond trace/span ingestion.
