"SmiType is nil" in SNMP trap logs

I have a ton of entries in the SNMP traps v2 extension log directory, in an ActiveGate, with lines like:

[b31fd0be-06ba-3c6e-b13d-1a9aa4e111ef][snmptraps][1202951][err][2024-04-24 12:08:32.372Z] [ds:snmptraps] [warning] [OK] SmiType is nil. Module name CISCO-SMI::ciscoMgmt

The module name varies, but this module name is the most common.

Interesting thing is that I have two similar AGs, both receiving a ton of traps, but this message only happens in one.

And I have checked the MIB files that are in
/opt/dynatrace/remotepluginmodule/agent/res/mib-files/
and they are identical.

AGs have identical versions.

Has anyone seen this message before, or know what it might mean?

@Mike_L,

I have traced this output to /opt/dynatrace/remotepluginmodule/agent/datasources/snmptraps/dynatracesourcesnmptraps

but given this a compiled executable, I have no idea in what circumstances this "SmiType is nil" happens?

One clue might be a great number of MIB files I have deployed, and that might have something wrong/old...

I don’t recognize it. Go with a support case.

Mike
