DPS Allocation - Handling shared costs

Hi,

How can I define shared costs?

In the documentation says that cost allocation data and expenses are retrieved from Account Management, imported into an Excel or Power BI Board, and configured to allocate the costs between “App1” and “App2” in the desired ratio."

How can we do it? I've see the button to download the cost allocation report but for uploading a file and configure allocating the costs didn´t.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Elena.

Have you defined ownerships in Dynatrace yet? Much of that will require defined ownerships/cost centers to attribute a value back. https://docs.dynatrace.com/docs/shortlink/cost-allocation

Now if your instance isnt matured with Ownership/Cost centers, but you are using management zones, what you can also do is leverage one of these dashboards that then will allow you to target constructs that fall under that MZ. For example, host much is it costing to Monitor the 5 Easy Travel hosts in Prod as full stack. You will also need to add in your rate card costs. Its all depicted here: https://community.dynatrace.com/t5/Dynatrace-tips/DPS-Dashboard-Built/m-p/232878#M1173

Hi Chad,

Yes, for handling shared costs it's necessary defining cost centers.

That we need is implementing that it's described here:

I opened a support ticket and they told us that shared cost must be manually handle with a cost allocation process using external tools like Excel or Power BI.

And they gave us these steps:
1. Define within the tagging strategy specific costcenters which are meant to be distributed again in addition (e.g. TeamA, TeamB, TeamAB)
2. configure the costcenters as needed
3. extract the cost allocation data via Account Management API
4. feed the data into a 3rd party tool which is able to provide calculations and visualizations (e.g. Excel, PowerBI)
5. configure within the 3rd party tool how the distribution of the special cost centers (e.g. TeamAB) should be done

Thanks a lot for your answer anyway.

Regards,

Elena.
