How the license is distributed in Dynatrace Oneagent?

Hi

Could you please provide information on Dynatrace Oneagent Licensing?

Our requirement is to deploy oneagent to monitor 1200 hosts. Each host has different RAM memory i.e., like 16gb, 48gb etc.,

How to obtain license for the above configuration (sample)?

How to install license?

How the license is distributed? i.e., like in APPMon, we distribute agents and map to technologies. What is the procedure to create license file in Oneagent? Should it be distributed to each host?

We only know that license is based on RAM memory

Please provide us further information on how do we get license and how to install?

Hello, you can install DT on al hosts. License will be evaluated on Dynatrace Server (total ram will be calculated and based on this license consumption will work). You are also able to pick in GUI which hosts should be monitored to save some of licenses. But agent can be installed on all of them.

In saas license is connected to your tetnant. In Managed you are pasting license key while install. Then dynatrace is connecting to Mission Control and validating license size. After this license is available for you. You are not installing license on hosts individually.

License is calculated base on RAM. Each 16GB on monitored hosts is 1 Host Unit. If your host has 48GB of ram i takes 3 HU. 8GB 0.5 HU etc. All of those units are summed up in Dynatrace server.

To get license (eather saas or managed) you have to contact with dynatrace sales or local partner the will be able to process it for you.

Agent licenses in Dynatrace are only based on the Host RAM, as you said. No need to look out for monitored technologies or anything else. You can find detailed information about license consumption in this documentation article.

From your example, a host with 16 GB would consume one Host Unit, a host with 48 GB RAM would consume 3 Host Units.

If you have dynatrace SaaS, there is no need to install a license, it is linked to your tenant. You can get a detailed overview of you consumption in the account settings:
