Is Apache Kafka supported in Dynatrace SaaS?

From the documentation, it seems this technology is not supported. See link below for info on supported technologies.

Also from this forum, it seems it is on the roadmap for AppMon. I would assume it may be on the roadmap for Dynatrace at some point.

Hi Praveenkumar.

1. Just download the 3 jsons in the repository (Dynatrace-Kafka-Plugin)
2. Upload them to your Dynatrace environment (Settings>Monitored technologies>Plugins).
3. The plugin screen should tell you if we have detected any processes exposing kafka-specific metrics.
4. If it says "zero processes" try changing "technologies": ["Kafka"] to "technologies": ["java", "tomcat"], in the json and upload again.
5. Then in any kafka process when you click "Further details" you will see charts with different json metrics.

I don't understand point 3 , which screen are you refering here.

Also , could you through some light on how to get the Consumer and Producer metrics. I could see Broker metrics under kafka process but still struggling to get Producer and Consumer metrics.

Hi Suresh. I mean Settings>Monitored Technologies and then click an uploaded plugin.

For Producer and Consumer it is the same process as for Broker. You would see the different metrics in the different nodes of Kafka. Maybe if you ask in the chat they can help you locate the metrics in your environment.

Kafka monitoring is supported out-of-the box, as of late 2018 (since Dynatrace release 1.155 and later).
