Feature Flagging is a popular option to decouple deployments from releases. Feature Flags are used to provide new capabilities to a set of users in a controlled manner. This enables continuous progressive delivery.
The popularity of feature flags has given rise to multiple homegrown and commercial solutions but has also introduced problems. Organizations and developers struggle to gracefully outgrow their homegrown solutions and migrate to vendor solutions, due to a lack of standardization between solutions. Organizations also struggle to efficiently observe the impact that their flags have on their applications. OpenFeature was founded to solve both of these problems by providing an open vendor-neutral standard feature flagging framework.
