Key Purpose of Maintenance Windows

• Suppress alerts and problems during known downtimes

• Avoid unnecessary synthetic monitor failures during planned outages

• Prevent alert fatigue for support teams

• Ensure SLO/SLA reports reflect only real issues

Steps to Create a Maintenance Window

1. Go to Settings > Availability Monitoring > Maintenance Windows

2. Click “Create Maintenance Window”

3. Fill in the name and description (e.g., "Synthetic Monitor Maintenance")

4. Select the type – Planned or Unplanned

5. Set the schedule – One-time, Recurring, or Custom time window

6. Define the scope – choose specific synthetic monitors, management zones, or tags

7. Under “What to suppress”, ensure Synthetic Monitoring is checked

8. Click Save

Use Case: Synthetic Monitoring

In my video, I demonstrate a scenario where a synthetic monitor is configured to test website availability every 5 minutes. During a planned deployment window, the website goes offline temporarily. Without a Maintenance Window, this triggers false alerts and problem tickets.

By scheduling a Maintenance Window during this deployment:

• The synthetic monitor still runs, but alerts are suppressed

• This avoids noise in the environment and false incident escalations

• The availability reports remain clean and accurate
