Hi Dynatrace Community! π
Iβve created a practical YouTube video that explains Maintenance Windows in Dynatrace β covering what they are, their key purpose, step-by-step configuration, and how they can be especially useful when working with synthetic monitors.
β
What is a Maintenance Window?
β
Why use it β main purpose and benefits
β
Step-by-step process to create one
β
Use case: Preventing synthetic monitor failures during planned maintenance
β
Real-time walkthrough from my own Dynatrace environment
Suppress alerts and problems during known downtimes
Avoid unnecessary synthetic monitor failures during planned outages
Prevent alert fatigue for support teams
Ensure SLO/SLA reports reflect only real issues
Go to Settings > Availability Monitoring > Maintenance Windows
Click βCreate Maintenance Windowβ
Fill in the name and description (e.g., "Synthetic Monitor Maintenance")
Select the type β Planned or Unplanned
Set the schedule β One-time, Recurring, or Custom time window
Define the scope β choose specific synthetic monitors, management zones, or tags
Under βWhat to suppressβ, ensure Synthetic Monitoring is checked
Click Save
In my video, I demonstrate a scenario where a synthetic monitor is configured to test website availability every 5 minutes. During a planned deployment window, the website goes offline temporarily. Without a Maintenance Window, this triggers false alerts and problem tickets.
By scheduling a Maintenance Window during this deployment:
The synthetic monitor still runs, but alerts are suppressed
This avoids noise in the environment and false incident escalations
The availability reports remain clean and accurate

Would love to hear how others in the community are using Maintenance Windows with synthetic monitoring or other services. Letβs connect and share!
